Ficus elastica

Ficus elastica, commonly known as the rubber plant, is a popular ornamental tree species that is native to the tropics of southeastern Asia. It is often grown for its attractive foliage and easy-to-care-for nature.

The rubber plant is a medium-sized tree that can grow up to 30 meters in height in the wild, but is typically smaller when grown as a houseplant. It has large, glossy, oval-shaped leaves that are dark green in color and have a waxy texture. The tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are followed by small, purple or red figs.

The rubber plant is so named because it produces a milky sap that was once used to make rubber. The sap is still used in some traditional medicine practices to treat a range of ailments, including skin conditions and respiratory problems.

The rubber plant is a popular houseplant because it is relatively easy to care for and can thrive in a range of light conditions, from bright, indirect light to lower light levels. It prefers well-drained soil and regular watering, but can tolerate periods of drought. The tree can also be grown outdoors in warm, humid climates.

In addition to its ornamental value, the rubber plant is also used in landscaping and horticulture, and is often grown as a hedge or screen. The tree is relatively fast-growing and can be propagated easily from cuttings.
