Tamarix aphylla

Tamarix aphylla, commonly known as athel pine or salt cedar, is a species of flowering tree or large shrub native to arid regions of North Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. It belongs to the family Tamaricaceae and can grow up to 15 meters in height.

The tree is well adapted to dry and saline soils and can tolerate high levels of salt in the water. It has small, scale-like leaves and pink to white flowers that bloom in the summer. The fruit of the tree is a small capsule containing many tiny seeds.

Tamarix aphylla has been widely planted as an ornamental tree and for erosion control in many parts of the world, including the United States. However, it has also been considered an invasive species in some areas, particularly in the southwestern United States, where it can outcompete native vegetation and disrupt local ecosystems.
